ADHD-Friendly Daily Routines with Obsidian and the Routines Plugin
Living with ADHD means attention and motivation often come in waves. What helps me most is turning important habits into small, repeatable routines I can finish even on low-energy days. I keep these routines inside Obsidian so they’re always one click away from my notes, tasks, and calendar.
To make this work smoothly, I built an Obsidian community plugin called Routines. It lets you define named routines (like “AM Startup” or “Deep Work Warmup”), expand them into checklists, and track completion without leaving your vault.
Why routines help with ADHD
- Reduce decision load: A clear, pre-written path beats starting from scratch.
- Right-sized steps: Each action is small and concrete, which lowers friction.
- Visual progress: Checking boxes provides immediate feedback and momentum.
My daily flow
I keep two anchors:
- Morning: A short “AM Startup” for meds, quick journal, top 3 priorities.
- Shutdown: A “PM Review” to capture loose ends and plan tomorrow.
Try the plugin
You can install it from the Obsidian community plugins browser, or check the source here: github.com/bcwilsondotcom/obsidian-routines-plugin. I welcome issues and suggestions.
If you’re ADHD or just routine-curious, I hope this helps you design days that are easier to start and easier to finish.
